Patient Services

At South Pelham Dental, we offer a wide range of preventive and restorative services. Below is a summary of the services we offer.  Dr. Hendrick, Dr. Takacs, or Dr. Dobson will advise you and help you choose the best treatment option for your particular situation.

Crowns

When a tooth is cracked, contains a large filling, and/or has been root-canal treated, it is at increased risk of fracture.  A crown protects and reinforces the remaining tooth structure. It is fabricated in a dental laboratory and is permanently cemented onto the tooth.  The benefit of this 'full-coverage' restoration is a permanently restored, functional and aesthetically pleasing tooth that blends in with the remainder of the natural teeth.

Veneers

Veneers are a thin, translucent coating made of porcelain. They are applied to the front teeth to improve the colour, size or shape of the teeth in moderation.  The porcelain blends with the enamel of the natural teeth and allows light to pass through, giving a natural appearance.

Veneers require minimal tooth reduction and can be used to correct several types of dental problems, including teeth discoloured by age or medication, front teeth that are worn or chipped, gaps and other spaces between teeth, and crooked teeth.

Implants

An implant is one of several options to replace a missing tooth.  It is a restorative procedure that attaches an artificial tooth to an anchor that is surgically placed in the jawbone.

In most instances, implants feel more natural and secure than other options to replace missing teeth.

The most common type of implant is the root-form.  It is made of titanium and looks like a small screw.  Titanium is a material that the jawbone accepts as part of the body.

After an implant is placed in the jawbone, it is allowed to heal to become integrated with the bone ( a process called osseointegration).  This process is the key to the success of an implant.

When the area has healed ( usually several months), a metal collar called an abutment is attached to the implant.  A crown, which closely replicates the colour and shape of the natural tooth, is made to attach to the abutment.

Bridges

A bridge consists of one or more replacement teeth permanently attached to natural teeth, thereby 'bridging' the space and restoring your smile. The colour of the replacement tooth is carefully matched to your natural teeth. It is a permanent, functional and aesthetically pleasing solution to a missing tooth or teeth within the dental arch.

Dentures

In situations where there are a large number of missing teeth, or where there is a lack of bone, implants or bridges may not be possible.  In these cases, a denture may be the option of choice. A denture is removeable, and is made up of one or more replacement teeth.  Gum coloured plastic attaches these to a metal framework.  It is held in your mouth with metal clasps or precision attachments.

Hygiene

Our office has developed an extensive preventive program to assist you in maintaining optimum oral health.  Dental health is an essential component of overall physical wellness. Frequent exams and preventive care can help with the early detection of periodontal (gum) disease or dental caries (cavities).  Our dental hygienists will do a thorough oral assessment and recommend a hygiene maintenance program that is specifically tailored to your needs, as well as educate you as to the best possible home care.
